Signed into law by President Lyndon B. To qualify for this prestigious federal designation, a river must be free-flowing and possess at least one "outstandingly remarkable value" (ORV). The 84-mile protected stretch of the Lower Rogue River boasts several: world-class whitewater recreation, breathtaking geology featuring near-vertical canyon cliffs, and exceptional fish and wildlife habitats. It is a vital spawning ground for Chinook salmon, coho, and steelhead, while the lush riverbanks provide sanctuary for black bears, river otters, and bald eagles.
