ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The following are the physical and mental eligibility criteria for all participants on any Morrison’s Rogue Wilderness Adventures river trip:
- Ability to remain seated and balanced while in a whitewater craft while holding on with at least one hand.
- Wear a Type V Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (maximum chest size of 56 inches). Wearing leg straps may be required to ensure proper fit. Where required, properly wear a helmet.
- Ability to independently board and disembark a boat four to ten times each day. This may require stepping into the boat, and then maneuvering your body over and across tubes and fixed objects into a seated position.
- If choosing an inflatable kayak, having the ability to follow verbal and visual commands and the physical ability to sit up in the boat and paddle while following a guide through whitewater.
- Ability to independently navigate shoreline terrain, including safely maneuvering around and across boulders, rocks, and slippery and uneven surfaces, under low branches, and around vegetation. This includes the ability to maintain your balance near precipitous ledges or cliffs.
- Ability to independently swim in whitewater or swift currents while wearing a PFD. This includes being an active participant in your own rescue, including having the ability to (a) keep your airway passages sealed while underwater, and regain control of your breathing when being submitted to repeated submersion under waves or currents; (b) orient yourself to new “in-river” surroundings; (c) reposition yourself in the water to different swimming positions; (d) swim aggressively to a boat or to shore in whitewater; (e) receive a rescue rope, paddle, or human assistance, and possibly let go of the same; (f) get out from under an overturned boat.
- Ability to swim 100 yards in flat water while wearing a PFD.
- Ability to assist another passenger who has fallen out of the boat by pulling them back in.
- Ability to follow both verbal and non-verbal instructions given by guides in all situations, including during stressful or dangerous situations, and to effectively communicate with guides and other guests.
- Ability to carry personal dry bags and other personal gear (as heavy as 20-30 pounds) uphill from the boats to your camping location and back the next morning, independently, or with the assistance of a friend or family member. (This only applies on multi-day trips).
- Ability to manage all personal care independently, or with the assistance of a friend or family member.
- If taking prescription medications, have the ability to maintain proper dosage by medicating independently, or with the assistance of a friend or family member.
- Ability to remain adequately fed, hydrated, and properly dressed so as to avoid environmental injuries such as hypothermia, heat-related illness, sunburn, and frostbite.
The following are additional eligibility requirements for all trips that involve hiking:
- Ability to walk ten or more miles in a backcountry environment.
- Ability to independently navigate rough terrain, including safely maneuvering around and across boulders, rocks, and slippery and uneven surfaces, under low branches, and around vegetation. This includes the ability to maintain your balance near precipitous ledges or cliffs.
- Ability to walk and maintain your balance on backcountry hiking trails, including trails with rocks, roots, and low branches. The trails are dusty, steep, and loose rocks. They range in width from 3 to 5 feet with exposed overlooks.
- Ability to carry your own daypack with your own essential items.
The above criteria, if not met, will disqualify a person from participating in a river trip with Morrison’s Rogue Wilderness Adventures. The criteria exist for your own safety and that of all trip participants. None of the criteria are meant to discriminate on the basis of any physical or mental disability and are applied uniformly to all potential trip participants, irrespective of the presence or absence of any disability. Morrison’s Rogue Wilderness Adventures is committed to making reasonable modifications to any trip for any person with a disability, so long as they do not fundamentally alter the nature of the trip.
Trip Cancellation and Travel Insurance
Our Cancellation Policy – Why It Exists
We completely understand that trip plans can change unexpectedly. However, when you book a Rogue River Adventure, your space represents one of a very limited number of permits allowed each day on the river. Once your spot is reserved, we immediately secure wilderness lodge accommodations, certified guides, transportation, food, and all the behind-the-scenes logistics that make your trip possible.
Those commitments are made well in advance and are non-refundable to us — even if an unforeseen event later prevents a trip from launching.
If You Need to Cancel
If you must cancel for any reason, all deposits and final payments are non-refundable.
Because trip space is limited and we turn away other guests once your spot is taken, we cannot offer refunds, credits, or date transfers for any reason — including illness, river closure, wildfire, wilderness lodge evacuations due to fire or other unforeseen events..
You are always welcome to send alternate guests in your place.
If We’re Unable to Operate or Must End a Trip Early
Very rarely, a situation beyond our control — such as a wildfire, unsafe conditions, or a federally mandated river closure — may prevent us from operating your trip safely. In these cases, it is equally devastating for us, as we have already paid for wilderness lodging, staff, and logistics that cannot be recovered.
If the trip must be ended early and guests and guides are pulled off the river, your trip is considered concluded at that point. The lodges used along the Rogue River are independently owned and not interchangeable, and your reservation does not include additional lodging or dining at Morrisons Rogue Wilderness Lodge unless it was specifically part of your original booking. While we coordinate the entire trip, the individual lodges operate separately and cannot automatically substitute for one another when closures occur.
For these reasons, we are unable to offer refunds or credits if your trip is shortened or cannot operate due to conditions beyond our control.
Travel Insurance
Because nature can be unpredictable, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment.
Trip insurance can help if your trip is canceled or interrupted due to covered reasons such as illness, river closure, wildfire, wilderness lodge evacuations due to fire or other unforeseen events.
Travel insurance generally costs 8–13% of your total trip cost, and children under 18 are often covered at a reduced rate when traveling with insured adults.
Most policies must be purchased within 14 days of your initial deposit for full coverage eligibility.
Travel Insurance Example
- If your trip costs $1,800 per person (or $3,600 for two guests), a travel insurance plan typically costs around $290–$470 total, depending on the coverage level and traveler ages.
- Children under 18 often qualify for reduced or complimentary coverage when insured with a parent or guardian.
- Travel insurance can reimburse you for covered interruptions, cancellations, or delays caused by events like illness, river closure, wildfire, wilderness lodge evacuations due to fire or flood.or other unforeseen events.
Example (No Travel Insurance):
If you choose not to purchase travel insurance and your trip cannot launch due to conditions beyond our control — such as a wildfire or river closure — the full trip cost (e.g., $3,600 for two guests) would be forfeited under our cancellation policy.
**If you choose not to purchase insurance, please understand that no refund, credit, or date transfer will be issued if you cancel or if conditions prevent us from operating.**
