Camping Trips
Morrison’s Rogue Wilderness camping trips combine the magic of a true outdoor river experience with the luxury of a comfortable and complete camp. Our guides set up camp and tents, prepare meals, and take care of all the details so you have time to explore and relax. All of our rafting camping trips provide you with camping gear, which includes a sleeping bag with a liner, sleeping pad, and tent. For an extra $250 per couple, a deluxe setup is available that includes a stand-up tent, cot, thicker sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and pillow.
What to Expect
An average day on the river consists of eight to ten miles with stops for lunch and areas of interest and a mid-afternoon arrival in camp. When you arrive and get settled into camp you will have some time to explore, nap, read, fish, or play a few games. If you are camping on the right side of the river you will have access to the historic Rogue River Trail. Ask your guide for highlights on the trail and which direction you should go. It is also wise to check in with your guide and let them know you’re leaving camp and when you’ll be back.
Meals in Camp
Our meals in camp are hearty, fresh, and cooked with love by our multi-talented raft guides. We take pride in offering delicious and complete meals with a little something for every palate. In general, camping dinners consist of a wide range of menus such as surf and turf with potatoes and salad, chicken teriyaki with vegetables and brown rice, and steak or chicken fajitas. Breakfasts could be eggs and bacon, lox and cream cheese bagel bar, and/or french toast with all the toppings- always served with yogurt, granola, and lots of coffee. MRWA can accommodate specific dietary restrictions and needs with advanced preparation. Please inquire with the front office for more information.
Camping Bathrooms
We carry a portable toilet with us on the trip to the Rogue River Canyon. We set up the toilet in a private area that has a wonderful view. Your guides will make you aware of the toilet rules when in camp, and are there to make your toilet experience easier. The Rogue River Canyon has 13 toilets that the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service maintain, but they are slowly but surely being removed due to environmental concerns. The guides also carry an emergency toilet kit with them for needs during the day.
Lodge Trips
There are five privately owned and operated river lodges in the Rogue River canyon. They work under a special permit from the government and supply a service to rafters, hikers, and anglers. The lodges are rustic, welcoming, and comfortable. The rooms and facilities are clean and warm, with linens and towels provided. Most bed options in the lodges are two single beds and a bathroom/shower in a private cabin. The lodges serve all meals family-style in the dining room.
Electricity
The lodges are off the grid for electricity so all power is based on diesel generators. Each night, the lodge turns off the generator and cabins do not have power during the night. However, Marial Lodge offers electricity 24 hours. Please bring a flashlight to use the bathroom at night. Also, there is no phone service at the lodges including cell phones.
Meals
The meals at the lodges are hearty and plentiful. The lodge staff cooks a variety of menu items, including spare ribs, barbecued chicken, au gratin potatoes, and fresh biscuits. Breakfast consists of eggs, hash browns, French toast, bacon, and pancakes. A complete menu of lodge meals is available upon request, please inquire with our front office.
Off the Grid
The historic lodges are a unique feature of the Rogue River Canyon. Because of them, there simply is no other river corridor like it in the world. Remarkably, most food and supplies arrive by jet boat, 4-wheel drive truck, or raft. These commodities come at a higher price to all, so expect a price increase for our trips that visit these unique and wonderful lodges.
Lodge Descriptions And Locations
Black Bar Lodge is the first lodge in the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue River. At river mile 10, Black Bar is night number one on our lodge trips. Owned by John and Vanessa James, Black Bar features log cabins and a beautiful setting in the middle of the wilderness. With the capacity to hold up to 30 guests, a night at Black Bar is a welcome stop for many river users. Morrisons Rogue Wilderness uses Black Bar lodge as our first night. Generators turn off at 10:00 pm.
Marial Lodge is the second lodge in the Rogue River Canyon. Marial Lodge is located at river mile 24 and is a popular stopping point above Mule Creek Canyon. Owned by Pat and Lori Cameron, Marial Lodge offers great hospitality and wonderful home-cooked meals. The Camerons have the reputation of welcoming you into their family for the evening, and truly showing you what Rogue River hospitality is all about. Marial Lodge is the only lodge that the generator stays on all night.
Paradise Lodge is our third Rogue River lodge in the canyon. Paradise Lodge, owned by John and Cathy Schleining, is right below the infamous rapid, Blossom Bar. The largest lodge in the canyon offers a beautiful setting deep in the Rogue Canyon. Steep canyon walls and a ranch-like setting make Paradise a favorite with all guests. Rich in history and comfortable rooms, Paradise will leave you wanting to come back for years to come. *Generators turn off at 10:00 pm.
Lucas Lodge, in Agness, Oregon, is our only lodge on the “grid” on the Rogue River. Lucas Lodge welcomes our anglers coming out of the Rogue River canyon with a great dinner and hospitality. Popular for their homemade meals of fried chicken, pot roast, soup, or tri-tip you will leave here very full. We stay at Lucas Lodge on fishing trips.
Camp and Lodge combo trip?
If you want to experience both options, consider our camp lodge combo. Camp one or two nights on the side of the river in luxury, then finish the trip with a hot shower, clean bed, and a home-cooked meal at Paradise Lodge. Hammocks, short hikes, volleyball courts, and a newly remodeled sauna await you at this aptly named lodge. Camp and Lodge combination trips are among our most popular trips.
